Product Description
If your knee feels weak, swollen or painful, the GenuTrain knee support can help you. It stabilizes the joint, relieves pain and helps to achieve faster mobilization. The GenuTrain is the original functional knee support and has undergone continuous further development since it was launched onto the market in 1981. The new generation with the Omega pad, a new functional cushion around the kneecap, is once again setting new standards. Further improvements have been made to the support, with the result that it is now better than ever at stabilizing the joint and pressure relief for the kneecap and reduction in pain at the meniscus. Secure hold and protection for the knee joint, the GenuTrain active support consists of anatomically contoured knit and an integral, ring-shaped, functional cushion, the Omega pad. It relieves pain by conveying the therapeutic pressure of the support from the kneecap to the soft tissues of  the knee region. Two nubs on the lower edge of the pad, the Hoffa pads, exert metered pressure on the infrapatellar fat pad,  thereby also increasing relief for the kneecap and supporting the pain-relieving effect. Lateral wings extend into the joint  space of the knee, providing targeted pain relief at the meniscus in this sensitive area. These meniscal wings mean that the Omega pad has a similar shape to the Greek letter Ω, hence its name.

When walking or running with the GenuTrain, the muscular contractions cause the pressure to rise and fall, thereby resulting in an effect which is similar to an intermittent compression massage. This stimulates the metabolism and helps to dispel swelling and hematomas more quickly. The support also stimulates receptors in the soft tissue of the knee and on the skin. The surrounding musculature is also activated and effective, long-term stabilization for the joint is achieved.

The perfect combination of shape and function, the material and shape of the GenuTrain active supports have an ingenious functional design for optimal effect and a high level of wearing comfort. The breathable, skin-friendly knit adapts to your every movement, without cutting into you or slipping. The material is far softer and more elastic in the sensitive flexion area of the hollow of the knee, and at the edges of the support. The GenuTrain is therefore particularly pleasant to wear. Spiral stays at the sides make sure that the  support does not lose its shape during movement, while integrated donning aids make the supports easy to put on with little effort.

GenuTrain is a comfortable, lightweight support designed to help relieve knee pain and swelling during sports or everyday activities. An incorporated silicone insert leaves the patella pressure-free, and provides intermittent compression to the soft tissue of the joint. This helps increase circulation,  aiding in the resorption of swelling and edema. Three-dimensional knit with covered patella avoids window edema, yet keeps pressure off the knee cap.

This support promotes proprioception (balance), giving heightened sensory awareness in the knee for increased joint stabilization. Graduated compression at the edges prevents constriction of circulation and makes for a more comfortable fit. Medial and lateral spiral stays keep the support from rolling or bunching.

The GenuTrain is designed for superior comfort, and is anatomically knitted for a precise fit. The fabric is breathable, regulates moisture and is gentle on sensitive skin. The active knit in the hollow of the knee is very fine to avoid irritation. A built-in donning aid allows easy pull-on application with just two fingers.

Commonly helpful with such conditions as:
  • Knee strains or sprains - A sudden or violent twist or wrench of a joint causing the stretching or twisting of ligaments and often rupture of blood vessels with hemorrhage to the tissues.
  • Knee instability
  • Post arthroscopy
  • Recurrent knee pain
  • Pre and post-operative knee inflammation - A response from an injury that may be characterized by redness, heat, pain, swelling and loss of function.
  • Chondromalacia - (Runner's Knee)- Aching pain behind the kneecap. Pain begins and progresses slowly. It appears in healthy, athletically active young people.

GenuTrain Facts:

Q. Does it have a seam?

A. Because the product is anatomically knit to best fit the body, it has a seam on the side of the support. The seam is very flat and not irritating.

Q. What's the difference between GenuTrain and GenuTrain P3?

A. GenuTrain P3 was specifically designed to treat patellar subluxation (shifting). Therefore, the silicone insert in the P3 has a tracking guide to prevent the patella from shifting out of place. It is also a little bit longer and has 4 stays, rather than 2, because the silicone insert is a lot larger than the GenuTrain insert.

Q. What are the stays made of and what are they for?

A. The stays are made of spiraled stainless steel (like a slinky toy when it is flat) so they are very flexible and won't rust when wet. The stays have plastic tips on the ends so they won't make holes in the material. The stays help prevent the support from rolling.

Q. Why is the kneecap covered?

A. The knit material lightly covers the patella to prevent swelling from developing in this area. GenuTrain's unique, 3 dimensional knit does not put excess pressure on the kneecap, which is a benefit.

Q. What is the elastic part of the GenuTrain made of?

A. The elastic part of the GenuTrain is a natural rubber which is a latex, natural rubber latex.  It is covered by many layers of fiber and does not come in direct contact with the skin.

Perfect for Athletes, January 13, 2012
By Geoff, High School Lacrosse Player(Huntington Beach, CA)

I had knee surgery on both knees to repair torn patella cartilage. The genutrain was the brace my orthopedic surgeon recommended for when I play sports. It works great! It supports the kneecap and keeps it stable, and when I go down on my knees for ground shots the padding around the kneecap lessens the impact to it, but it also allows me to be very mobile and doesn't slow me down. When I forget to wear it to a game, I am in a lot of pain afterward, but when I wear it I'm not. We just ordered two more in a bigger size because I outgrew the old ones.

Great product, January 7, 2012
By deedough(Westford, Ma)

It's a good product..the only issue is that if you fall on a rubber floor while playing the knee brace will rip, but I think any knee brace would do that on this type of floor.

Good, November 2, 2011
By Alex(Los Angeles, ca)

This knee brace is good and comfortable and one of the best I tried. The only thing I notice after wearing it for about 2 weeks I notice it gets really loose so it slips down with movement

We measured and err on the smaller size. Unfortunately the knee support constantly slides down.

On the mend, July 6, 2011
By sal(Bradbury, CA)

I am a 48 year old male. I love playing Tennis 3-4 days a week. I severely sprained my knee damaging my meniscus and surrounding ligaments. After a few weeks of rest and ice, I slowly recovered. I wanted a brace that would give plenty of support yet allow movement so I could continue to play. I have been very satisfied with this product. The fit is so comfortable I sometimes forget I have it on. I'm not so worried about re injury. My knees are not what they used to be. I think this knee support will protect my knees for future play. I'm ordering another.

Long Term User of GenuTrain Knee Support, June 25, 2011
By Geezer Jock(Oak Lawn, IL)

I have been using the Genutrain Knee supports for over 15 years. I use them primarily for aerobic classes and find them supportive, comfortable, and enduring. I have had to replace them only every several years as they hold up very well.

Miracle product!, May 27, 2011
By Christine(long island, ny)

I bought this product as a 'step down' from a much more constrictive brace. I have a torn miniscus in my rt knee and have had problems for yrs. I recently gained alot of wt due to medical issues and as I was trying to lose the wt, I needed a good brace to support my knee. The one I was using was very cumbersome, with metal hinges and blocks on the sides as my knee tends to buckle. It served a purpose for awhile but as I became more active, it was just too much and way to constricting to the point of almost cutting off circulation. I started looking for a brace that would still provide support but wasn't as contrictive. I found this one and after reading the reviews of others who also had a torn miniscus, I decided to try it. I was a little hesitant when first using it because my knee can be so unstable but I must say I am very impressed and very happy to report that I am able to do even more with this brace then the large, restrictive one I had for yrs. I feel totally confident in the support that it provides and I am able to do any activity I want, even running which has been a problem for me for some time!! This brace has given me the freedom do what I want without causing pain, numbness or restrictive feeling. I am so glad I purchased this and would recommend to anyone.

A Wonderful Surprise!, April 14, 2011
By Joe(Indianapolis, IN)

I am a 61 year old male and have enjoyed playing tennis for some time. I began having problems with both knees several years ago, to include having meniscus surgery, and was getting concerned about my ability to continue. I tried several off the shelf store products but was dissatisfied for various reasons. Purchasing and using this product has allowed me to not only contiue playing but has eliminated the knee pain both during and after court time! The extent of the relief provided was surprising and well worth the cost for two braces.

Great brace, December 27, 2010
By Ron(Plano, TX)

I used the fitment chart and first bought a size 5, based on the sizing per the fitment chart. However it did not give enough support, so I bought the size 4, which is perfect. So for me the one size smaller than the fitment chart indicated was the solution. I play tennis, am 64, and have arthritis in my knee, and this brace is the best one out there, by far. Thanks.

Happy with Purchase, October 27, 2010
By X2 knee replacement girl(Asheville, NC)

This support is very comfortable. I have less stiffness and soreness the day after hiking and playing tennis. it is cooler and more comfortable than the cheaper variety sold in drugstores. I would wear it more often, but I have varicosities in the leg with the knee replacement.

This product was recommended by my brother-in-law and sister who are both physicians. My knee was troublesome probably due to jogging. Wearing this knee support has brought genuine relief. I would recommend this product. The fabric and design features are favorable.

Worth Buying, May 10, 2010
By Retired(Springfield, Illinois)

I am in need of knee replacements. I bought one knee support and used it on the worst knee for a couple months. When I saw how much it helped I bought the second one from you. Knee surgery is scheduled in July for the first knee of my choice unless I reschedule again as I have 2 times now for a completely different reason. So thank you for the great knee brace that provides me some comfort.

Outstanding !!!!!, April 26, 2010
By Sole(Ellensburg, WA)

The best knee brace I have ever used! I have struggled with patellar tendonitis and bursitis for about six years now, and tried many knee braces, but none of them come close to the GenuTrain. I recommend it everyone I know who is suffering from chronic knee pain. This is a great investment and worth every penny. I truly recommend this if you are suffering from chronic knee pain, or are recovering from an injury.

Swiss Precision, April 21, 2010
By Linda from Oz(Brisbane, Australia)

I fell on ice and needed a knee reconstruction while in St MOritz, Switzerland last Christmas. Thank heavens someone pointed me in the direction of Klinik Gut where some of the best Knee Surgeons in the world can be found. They gave me this brace to use from week 3. I got a second one, as I am in the gym doing rehab every second day. It's great and from week 6 allowed me to do floor work in my pilates class. These guys are the clinic to a number of international ski race teams - I think they would only use products which really work - it certainly has for me.

BIGGEST SIZE NOT BIG ENOUGH, February 27, 2010
By Laura(Silver Spring, MD)

if it would fit me, I guess it would be a good product. But I am a fat woman, the bigest size they have is not good enough for me and it strangles my leg. They should make something that could fit fatter people. I am a size 3 plus size, hardly the bigest woman, and this does not fit. As they don't allow you to return it, I am stuck with it, and it is quite expensive.

Execllent Product, September 30, 2009
By karend13(Nashville, TN)

My sports medicine doctor gave me this brace for a misaligned kneecap and tendonitis. It offers great support without constricting movement. I use it for playing soccer, running and working out. It's easy to clean and holds up well. I've tried other supports/braces and have not received the same level of support as the Baouerfeind GenuTrain.

A Must Have for knee support, August 20, 2009
By Gale the yogi(Los Angeles , Ca.)

I have been practicing yoga for fifteen years in addition to hiking and running. I had a miniscus tear in my left knee and was told by my orthopedic doctor to stop everything and go to physical therapy three times a week. After a few weeks my knee improved and I felt I was ready to do some walking. My physical therapist suggested the Bauerfeind Genutrain. Now, thanks to this amazing product, I am back hiking and walk/running 4 miles a day. I just ordered 1 more. It is a great product I highly recommend.

Great Brace, March 30, 2009
By David(NC)

A wonderful brace, worth every penny. I hurt my knee playing flag football months ago and my old knee is still bothering me - gets very stiff, hard to bend, aches while I walk..Wearing the brace I'm able to participate in a basketball league again. The brace provides great support, stays place even when soaked with sweat, and completely removes my knee pain. I'm considering wearing it all the time now! More than most neoprene braces but so much better. I've handwashed it numerous times and has kept its form and feel.
